Iraqi Forces clears ISIS Fighters from a key Village overlooking Mosul’s Airport – An Iraqi army has said on Monday that that the army forces of Iraqi backed by the US were closing in on the Mosul airport after pushing back ISIS fighters at a nearby hill.
Mosul fell into the hands of ISIS in the summer of 2014, along with large swaths of northern and western Iraq.
The Iraqi forces which launched the push for Mosul’s militant-held western half are now in an operation to retake the city from ISIS officially.
Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend, a top U.S. commander in Iraq said that ” the Iraqi Forces are capable and fully prepared to take Mosul Fully from ISIS”
In addition he said that “Mosul would be a tough fight for any army in the world, and the Iraqi forces have risen to the challenge”.
The Iraqi Forces which were backed by Jets And Helicopters battled through to the Mosul Airport as they prepared to take on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group’s stronghold in the city’s west bank.
On U.S backing Iraqi Forces, it was noted that There are now some 6,000 US troops in Iraq and last month was the first time the Pentagon confirmed that US forces are working inside Mosul.
The Battle to Retake Western Mosul Rages On as the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi described the operation as a “new dawn” in the liberation of Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city and ISIS’ last major stronghold in the country.
