Yemen – US Launches Airstrikes against al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in Yemen overnight – The Pentagon as announced that In Yemen, 20 Airstrikes were conducted overnight by the United States. The strikes went viral and hits many locations including equipment, infrastructures, heavy weapons systems and fighting positions in the Abyan, Shabwa and Baydha regions.
According to a Pentagon Official, the strikes were conducted by both drones and manned aircraft, and were not the direct result of information from January’s SEAL raid.
US officials has said that both manned and unmanned aircraft were used, which resulted to the killing of al Qaeda personnel.
Sources as said that information were obtained in the ground raid, information Like locations of additional safe havens, explosives manufacturing, training and targets.
“The raid will lead to intelligence which will lead to future operations” said an official.
Military intelligence sources had said that the strikes were also part of new directives to angrily attack the Dhahab and Qayfa clans and the expansion and increase of strikes directed by the White House was a demonstration of a “stop being Calm” approach to defeating Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. The increase of strike was as a result of President Donald trump suggestion.
A former US official said that AQAP was the target of the January raid by Navy SEALS that killed a U.S. service member and several children. That raid was proposed by the military as part of a series of stepped-up actions against the terror group
